Enter the page URL and click Validate Hreflang. The tool finds the alternate hreflang tags in the HTML, checks for x-default and self-reference, duplicates and code format, and the HTTP response of each address. Reciprocal mode also looks for return links. A guest gets 10 runs a day.

If page A points to B as an alternate, B must point back to A. According to Google's documentation, if two pages do not point to each other, the tags are ignored. Reciprocal mode loads up to 8 target addresses and looks for a link to the page you tested.

Self-reference is required: each version must list itself along with the others. x-default defines a fallback version for languages that match none of the listed ones; it is recommended but not mandatory.

A language per ISO 639-1, optionally a region per ISO 3166-1 Alpha 2 (such as de-AT) or a script (zh-Hans). A region alone, without a language, is invalid. Our tool currently accepts only a language and a region, so codes with a script will be flagged as errors.

No, only link tags in the page HTML. If your hreflang is set in a sitemap or a Link header, the tool will report that there is no markup. For such sites use a crawler or Search Console.

The hreflang target answers with a redirect or an error. Hreflang should contain final URLs that return 200 and are not blocked from indexing. Replace the address in the markup with the final URL.
