The request is a HEAD from our server (repeated as GET on 403, 405 and 501) and the site’s certificate is validated: an SSL error is flagged on the step.

Enter the address and click Check. The tool sends a HEAD request and shows the code (200, 301, 404, 500 and so on), the response time and the redirect chain. No sign-up; the limit is 30 checks per minute.

301 is a permanent redirect: search engines move the address and signals to the new URL. 302 is temporary: the old address stays primary. Use a 301 when a page moves.

We use the HEAD method, and some servers and protections block it or answer differently than to GET. A server may also react differently to our User-Agent.

Yes, up to 10 hops through HTTP (3xx) redirects. Redirects through meta refresh and JavaScript are not followed.

No, the certificate is deliberately not validated for the code check. Use the separate SSL tool to check expiry and the chain.
