FAQ

Type the IP address into the field and press Check: the result card shows the AS number, its name, the organization, the country and, for IPv4, the network prefix. Without a website you can run whois -h whois.cymru.com " -v 8.8.8.8" in a Linux or macOS terminal.

Enter the domain — the tool resolves it to its first IPv4 address and shows that address's ASN. If the site sits behind Cloudflare or another CDN, you see the CDN's network, not the host. It helps to look at the domain's IP addresses first in the domain to IP tool.

An ASN is an autonomous system number: the label for a network run by a single operator such as an ISP, a data centre, a cloud or a large company. Routers use it to decide where traffic goes; for you it shows who owns a block of addresses.

No — this tool's field accepts only an IP address or a domain. To list the prefixes of an AS or find an AS by company name, use the whois command or a service that supports it, such as HackerTarget or DNS Robot.

The address country comes from a geolocation database and describes the IP, while the AS may be registered elsewhere, since a provider's network often spans several regions. For anycast networks such as CDNs the location is almost always approximate, so trust the organization and AS number.

No registration is needed: you get 10 lookups a day without an account, 30 with an account, and no daily cap with Pro. A separate limit of 15 requests a minute per IP applies.
