Spintax: Text Variants and When They Are Appropriate
Spintax is a text recording with variants: interchangeable pieces are listed in curly braces, and the generator assembles different versions from them. The tool for this is text variant generator, which can also parse ready-made spintax and create variants from regular text.
How It Looks
A construction like {delivery|shipping} means that one of the words will remain in the final text. Nesting is allowed, so a short template can yield dozens of versions. It is important to monitor agreement: variants must match in case and number, otherwise it will result in 'delivery are made'.

How Many Versions Make Sense
The number of combinations grows rapidly: five blocks with three variants yield more than two hundred versions. But the useful ones among them are as many as the meaningful differences you laid out — the rest is statistical noise. A practical guideline: if the variants differ only with synonyms, three to five versions will suffice; if the structure and order of thoughts differ, the versions are indeed different.
Practical Rules
- Vary the formulations, not the facts: numbers and names should remain the same.
- Check agreement at least on several generated versions.
- Do not nest more than two levels — the text becomes unreadable during editing.
- Run the final version through readability: auto-generation often breaks the rhythm.
