Health Score: assessment of the technical condition of the site
Health Score is a composite assessment of the technical condition of the site from 0 to 100 in the SEO Audit subservice. Essentially, it is the share of pages that passed checks without remarks: the fewer problematic pages, the higher the number. The score only reflects technical aspects and is not a forecast of positions or traffic.
How it is calculated
After the crawl, each page falls into exactly one basket — based on the most serious finding on it. Then the baskets are weighted and compared to the total number of crawled pages.
| What was found on the page | Weight in the calculation |
|---|---|
| At least one critical error | 1.0 |
| No errors, but there are warnings | 0.4 |
| Only remarks | 0.1 |
| Nothing found | 0 |
The result: 100 multiplied by one minus the ratio of the sum of weights to the number of pages, rounded and limited to the range of 0–100. A key takeaway: the score is calculated based on pages, not the number of findings. One critical error and twenty critical errors on the same page count the same — therefore, it is more beneficial to fix templates that affect many addresses at once.
What checks it consists of
The catalog contains more than fifty checks, divided into six areas. Each area in the report has its own count — unlike the overall Health Score, it takes into account the number of findings.
| Area | Examples of findings |
|---|---|
| Indexing and crawling | 4xx and 5xx responses, inaccessible pages, loops and chains of redirects, noindex, canonical issues, closure in robots.txt |
| Meta and On-Page | Missing or duplicate Title, too long or empty description, no H1 or multiple H1s |
| Content | Little text, content duplication, keyword stuffing |
| Performance | Slow response, heavy HTML, lack of compression, blocking scripts, images without sizes |
| Links and structure | Links to broken pages, orphan pages without incoming links, too deep nesting |
| Security and HTTPS | Mixed content, lack of HSTS on the homepage |
The findings themselves are divided into three levels: critical (require immediate attention), warnings (should be fixed soon), and remarks (recommendations for improvement). The number of successfully passed checks is shown alongside.
Where it appears in PromoPilot
- Audit report. A ring with a number in the header: 80 and above — good, 60–79 — average, below 60 — there are issues to fix.
- SEO Audit dashboard. The indicator "Average Health Score" across all your sites.
- Site page. The table "Audit history" with the score of each crawl and an arrow showing the change.
- Block "Changes since the last audit". Transition "was → became" and breakdown: fixed, added, remained.
- Email and notification. The subject line of the email about the completion of the audit contains the score, while the body includes a breakdown by levels.
- Printed report, mobile app, and API. The same indicator, including the history of crawls.
In the main PromoPilot cabinet, the number is not displayed — it lives in the subservice, the link to which is in the service card. More about the audit can be found in the article about SEO Audit.
How to influence it
- Start with critical findings: only they give the full weight of the page in the calculation.
- Look for template reasons — one correct fix in the template can close hundreds of pages at once.
- Run a re-audit and focus not on the number itself, but on the comparison block with the previous time.
- Ensure that the target promotion pages are technically sound before launching the cascade.
Common misconceptions
- "I need to reach 100". A score of 100 means a site without a single remark on all pages; this is almost unattainable on a live project and is unnecessary.
- "I rechecked the page — the score should increase". Rechecking updates only the page itself. The overall Health Score is recalculated only during a new crawl.
- "The score dropped — the site got worse". Often this means that the crawl captured more pages than last time and found issues that were not seen before.
