Pay-as-you-go SEO tools in 2026: 12 options with no subscription, prices and credit expiry

If you need SEO data, keyword research, indexing or links only occasionally, a $100–500 monthly suite is overkill. We checked 12 subscription-free options on their official pages in October 2026: SERP data from $0.60 per 1,000 results pages, keyword credits from $25, indexing from $0.05 per URL with refunds, per-placement link marketplaces — and the credit expiry and dormant-balance rules that decide the real price. Plus the popular tools that are subscription-only.

Pay-as-you-go SEO tools in 2026: 12 options with no subscription, prices and credit expiry

Most SEO suites cost $100–500 a month whether you use them or not. If you need SEO data, keyword research, indexing or link placements only from time to time, pay-as-you-go tools are usually cheaper: you top up a balance or buy a credit pack and pay per request. We checked 12 genuinely subscription-free options on their official pages in October 2026 — SERP and SEO data APIs, keyword tools, indexing, link placements and a crawler — plus the popular tools that turned out to be subscription-only. The cheapest Google results page costs $0.0006 through an API, credits expire after anywhere from six months to never, and the fine print on dormant balances matters more than the headline price.

When pay-as-you-go beats a subscription

A subscription makes sense if you open the tool every week. Pay-as-you-go wins when work is irregular: a quarterly audit, keyword research before a launch, a one-off backlink check, an agency with uneven client load, or a developer who needs data inside their own product. The trade-off is convenience: subscription suites bundle dashboards, history and support, while most PAYG tools give you raw data or a single function.

Pay-as-you-go is cheapest for irregular work, but expiry and dormant-balance rules can quietly eat a prepaid budget.

SERP and SEO data APIs

If you or a developer can make an API call, raw data is where pay-as-you-go saves the most. Here is what 1,000 Google results pages cost at the entry level.

Cost of 1,000 Google results pages Entry-level pay-as-you-go prices on official pages, October 11, 2026. US dollars. DataForSEO standard $0.60 about 5 minutes per task, $50 minimum payment Serper.dev $1.00 $50 pack, 2,500 free queries, credits valid 6 months Bright Data $1.50 success-only billing, 5,000 free requests a month DataForSEO live $2.00 results within seconds ValueSERP $2.50 $25 first purchase, 100 free requests Cost of 1,000 Google results pages Entry-level pay-as-you-go prices on official pages, October 11, 2026. Faster delivery costs more: DataForSEO's live mode is more than three times its standard queue. Large Serper.dev packs drop to $0.30 per 1,000, but credits expire after six months.
Data API

DataForSEO

The reference pay-as-you-go SEO API: a prepaid balance with a $50 minimum payment and a $1 free trial credit. Google SERP costs $0.60 per 1,000 in the standard queue, $1.20 in priority and $2.00 live; search volume costs $0.06 per task of up to 1,000 keywords; backlinks $0.024 per request plus $0.000036 per row. On July 1, 2026 it removed the $100 monthly minimum for the Backlinks API — older articles still quote it — and raised several prices by about 20%.

Best for: developers and agencies building their own reports or tools.
SERP API

Serper.dev

Credit packs with no subscription: $50 for 50,000 Google queries ($1.00 per 1,000), down to $0.30 per 1,000 on the largest pack, plus 2,500 free queries without a card. The catch: credits are valid for six months.

Best for: simple, fast Google results at a predictable price, if you will use the credits within six months.
SERP API

Bright Data SERP API and ValueSERP

Bright Data charges $1.50 per 1,000 requests pay-as-you-go, only for successful requests, with a free tier of 5,000 requests a month. ValueSERP charges $2.50 per 1,000 with a $25 first purchase for 10,000 requests and 100 free requests on signup. Neither page states whether prepaid credit expires.

Best for: SERP data from many countries and devices with success-only billing.
SEO data API

SE Ranking API Wallet

A one-time top-up of $50 for 250,000 credits for backlinks, keywords, SERP and AI data, and the pricing page says Wallet credits never expire. One caveat: the Wallet card also shows a "/mo" label, so confirm at checkout that it is a one-off payment.

Best for: SE Ranking's data without its subscription.

Keyword research

Keywords

Keywords Everywhere

Credit top-ups from $80 for 200,000 credits (1 credit per keyword, $0.40 per 1,000, down to $0.16 on large packs). Credits expire after a year, oldest first. Many widgets work free without credits. Plans are annual only, and the official pages do not make clear whether top-ups can be bought without a plan.

Best for: volume and CPC right in the browser while you research.
Keywords

LowFruits

Credit packs from $25 for 2,000 credits — one credit analyses one keyword's results page for weak competitors — up to $250 for 50,000. Credits expire after a year; a 14-day money-back applies if you used fewer than 100 credits. Some features (rank tracker, domain explorer) are subscription-only.

Best for: finding long-tail keywords where small sites already rank.

Indexing and link placements

Indexing

Rapid URL Indexer

One-time credit packs from $25 for 500 URLs ($0.05 per URL), credits never expire, and the credit is returned automatically if a URL is not indexed in Google within 14 days. Our comparison of 11 backlink indexers covers the alternatives and refund models.

Best for: occasional indexing without paying for URLs that never make it in.
Link placements

Collaborator.pro and PRNEWS.IO

Two marketplaces where you pay per placement from a balance. Collaborator.pro charges a 10% commission on deposits; after 365 days without transactions an account is charged $1 a day, and after 90 more days the balance is zeroed — in practice an expiry. PRNEWS.IO sells sponsored articles in media at the outlet's price plus a service fee of about 15%; its pages blocked automated checks, so confirm terms on the site.

Best for: buying individual placements without a retainer. Read the dormant-balance rules first.
Link building

PromoPilot

Our own service, by the same criteria. You top up a balance and pay per launch: a tiered cascade around one page costs $30 on the Basic plan, or you build your own at $3 per tier 1 and $2 per tier 2 publication. No subscription is required; the Pro plan is optional and adds a discount and extra tools. The SEO Radar check and more than 75 SEO tools are free.

Best for: promoting many pages on a budget without a monthly retainer.

Crawling and free essentials

Screaming Frog SEO Spider. Not pay-as-you-go but a one-off annual licence at $279 with no usage fees; the free version crawls up to 500 URLs.
Google Search Console. Free and the only first-party source of your real clicks, impressions and indexing status.
Ahrefs Free. Formerly Ahrefs Webmaster Tools: limited Site Explorer and Site Audit for sites you verify, free.
Moz API free tier. 50 rows a month — enough to test, not to work.

Subscription-only tools people often assume are pay-as-you-go

Ahrefs (from $29 a month; extra API units only as a plan add-on), Semrush (from $139 a month; API requires the Business plan plus unit packages), Moz API paid tiers (from $20 a month), Serpstat (from $50), Mangools, Sitebulb, Wincher, Surfer, Frase (pay-as-you-go only as overage on a plan), SerpApi and Zenserp are subscriptions. SEO PowerSuite sells annual licences. They can still be the right choice — just not for occasional use.

One option to avoid

Shops selling backlinks "per order" at fractions of a cent — for example $0.0003 per profile or forum link, with SEnuke campaigns on the same menu — are pay-as-you-go too. They are automated spam under Google's spam policies, and cheap pricing is exactly how they find buyers.

Frequently asked questions

Are there SEO tools without a monthly subscription?
Yes. DataForSEO, Serper.dev, Bright Data SERP API, ValueSERP and SE Ranking's API Wallet sell SEO data per request from a prepaid balance. Keywords Everywhere and LowFruits sell keyword credits in packs, Rapid URL Indexer sells indexing credits, and Screaming Frog sells an annual licence with a free 500-URL version.

What is the cheapest way to get Google SERP data?
In October 2026 DataForSEO's standard queue costs $0.60 per 1,000 results pages, Serper.dev $1.00 per 1,000 on its entry pack and down to $0.30 on large packs, Bright Data $1.50 and ValueSERP $2.50 per 1,000. Serper.dev credits expire after six months.

Do pay-as-you-go SEO credits expire?
It depends on the tool. Rapid URL Indexer and SE Ranking's API Wallet say credits never expire, Keywords Everywhere and LowFruits credits expire after one year, and Serper.dev credits after six months. Collaborator.pro charges a daily fee on balances inactive for a year.

Does Ahrefs or Semrush have pay-as-you-go pricing?
No. Ahrefs starts at $29 a month and sells extra API units only as an add-on to a plan. Semrush starts at $139 a month, and its API requires the Business plan plus API unit packages. Ahrefs Free gives limited data for sites you verify.

Is there a pay-as-you-go link building service?
Yes. Marketplaces such as Collaborator.pro and PRNEWS.IO charge per placement from a balance, and PromoPilot charges per cascade from a balance with no subscription required: $30 per page on the Basic plan or $3 per tier 1 and $2 per tier 2 publication in a custom cascade.

When is a subscription SEO suite worth it?
When you use it every week. Suites bundle rank tracking history, dashboards, site audits and support. For occasional audits, keyword research before launches or data inside your own product, pay-as-you-go tools usually cost less.
